Esta foi uma época marcada pelas dificuldades financeiras que o Clube atravessava, pelo que o quadro de jogadores foi substancialmente reduzido, com a dispensa de vários elementos que se considerava terem menos possibilidades de chegarem à equipa principal, ao mesmo tempo que foram recrutados outros a quem se vislumbrava um futuro promissor, sendo que entre estes se destacou Virgílio Lopes.
